Eastbound and Down: Season 2 (2010)

The latest season of Eastbound and Down has finally landed, and sadly it's all over already. The series follows the ups and downs of ex-pro baseball player Kenny Powers and his sidekick/assistant/admirer Stevie Janowski as they attempt to save themselves from one disaster (of their making) after the next.

Like a polished Trailer Park Boys, Eastbound and Down benefits from a big juicy HBO budget and it shows, plenty to keep you entertained both in comic and visual styles.

Somos Lo Que Hay (2010) - We Are What We Are

Starring Paulina Gaitan (Sin Nombres and Trade) We Are What We Are has been dubbed a "heartwarming" cannibal flick, set in Mexico and focusing upon a family of cannibals. Mixed reviews so far, i'm sure this will be one of those horror film that splits people down the middle (pardon me!) the concept of nice wholesome family cannibal fun is not really new, but it will be interesting to see if Jorge Michel Grau can bring something new to the table.

UK cinema release is set for 12 November 2010.

The Social Network (2010)

I really wasn't sure about seeing this film; the social politics of facebook have never sat too easily with my unrealistic ideals. However, after a rather cheesy first 15 minutes (in which the social stereotypes of the American education system are broken down into two yummy wholesome bites (those who understand computer speak and those who know their Cristal from their Claret.

For those of you worried that you may come too close to a "poke", "pirate party" or present in the form of a thousand pink dots for comfort, fear not, this is David vs. Goliath (or nerd vs. jock) played out in the board room.

The Last Exorcism (2010)

Think The Blair Witch Project crossed with The Exorcist; a casual, almost laughable opening half had myself and a friend in stitches and then moments later shitting ourselves.
Certainly not the cheap horror/supernatural hit I had been expecting, lots of clever referencing to more sinister flicks such as "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" playing on the latent fear we all harbor of young, innocent females from the bible belt.

All that aside, an impressive 3rd production from German Director Daniel Stamm (who previously directed "A Necessary Evil" and "Off Hollywood & Vine".)

Machete (2010)

Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis' Machete will be hitting cinemas in the UK on November 26th. Machete featured in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 "Grindhouse" project as a fake advert/interlude to the film which was not originally intended to be a full length feature.
It stars Danny Trejo as a Federale gone renegade after being "set up and doubled-crossed" as well as an all star cast of; Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Segal, Lindsay Lohan and Michelle Rodriguez.

Much like "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof" Machete is a mix of the absurd and excessive; expect lots of needless (albeit necessary) violence, sex/slightly out of place (but beautiful dames) and macho displays of disaffection.

Hello and welcome!

I’ve decided to finally pull my finger out and start a blog about the films (new and old) that I love, but also forthcoming international films from across the genres.

I hope that I can provide useful film tips for visitors to the site, and I would love to hear from other film lovers who know of upcoming features that I haven’t mentioned (but should’ve)!
